Game Design Document (GDD)

Last week, you completed your two-pager vision idea for your game. Congrats you’re ready to take the next big step in the development of your game! This week, you need to create your Game Design Document(GDD). The GDD can take many forms, originally they were created as written Documents for example Here(this site describes and gives examples). Chris Grehan(creator of Fungus and Game Developer at Romero Games, Galway) showed students last year that Romero Games Ltd. used PowerPoint for developing there GDD as they found it easier to edit and make additions. There is even software for helping you create your GDD called Dundoc.

For this assignment, feel free to use any template you have found, or Powerpoint or Dundoc and creating an initial GDD and embedding it into your blog, remember this is a live document and you will be improving on this document as the project progresses.

Time. You should budget approximately 2 hours for this assignment. Record your thoughts and ideas, plus add the link to your Dundoc project (if you’re using it) and at least one image in a blog post as you work.

Each person’s blog post will come out differently based on the kind of game you are looking at, but here are some items that you will definitely want to have in your post:

      • Thoughts and ideas and introduction to your GDD
      • Link to GDD
      • Image(s). Find at least one image that you think you could use, something that really represents your game. As always, include image information.
      • Post Title. Include the phrase “Game Design Document” somewhere in the post title.
      • Post Labels. Label the post with: Week 6, Project.

And, as always, be sure to spellcheck and proofread.

SEND ME AN EMAIL

As I explained last week, the Project is the only assignment each week that you will turn in by email,  So, please copy-and-paste the information in the blue box here into an email that you send me, and use this subject line: GDD

DECLARATION

Then you can do the Declaration in Moodle; the Declaration there just says “I have sent in the email.” Each week for the project it will work just like this: you will send me an email that lets me know you are done with the assignment, and then after you send me the email, you will do the Declaration.

Paste this into the email you send me: I have written a blog post with research about a project topic.
Thoughts and ideas and introduction to your GDD
LINK(S): I have included a link.
IMAGE(S). I included at least one image with image information (caption and link).
POST TITLE: The phrase “Game Design Document” appears in the post title,
POST LABELS: I used two labels — Project, Week 6 — separated by a comma.
PROOFREADING: I used a spellchecker, and I proofread my post.
