Reading Week 04

This assignment has two parts: first, you will read the following material,and then you will spend some time browsing the additional material to see what grabs your attention. To finish up, you will write up a blog post with your thoughts.

Readings.

This the last lesson in building a critical vocabulary from which to discuss games. We need a way to dissect and analyze a game by discussing its component parts and how they all fit together. This can be useful when discussing other people’s games, but it is also useful in designing our own games. After all, how can you design a game if you don’t know how all the different parts fit together?

            This article builds on Costikyan’s I Have No Words, offering some additional tools by which we can analyze and design games. It is quite long, 7 pages but well worth the read
          • Paper Prototyping and Iterative Design — Part 1 – this is 9 part explanation on paper prototyping for a game – interesting process- might remind you of being told to design a website on paper first!

Blog

When you are done browsing, write up a blog post with your thoughts about what you have read.
For the blog post, use “Game Elements” in the title, with “Reading, Week 4” as the labels, and include at least one image (with image information). Here is the Declaration for Reading :
