  DMED H2023 Multimedia Development 1

Learning Outcomes. 

On successful completion of this module, the learner will be able to

        1. Create a simple stand-alone artefact that may be used on a variety of devices
        2. Use a multimedia authoring tool to design and implement time-based digital artefacts
        3. Add buttons and basic interactions involving audio and visuals
        4. Implement basic Vector Graphics, Animation and Tweening
        5. Demonstrate the fundamentals of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
        6. Write simple scripts to aid the multimedia production process

Weekly Assignments:

All weekly assignments are listed at the Course Calendar. Each week, you will complete several different types of assignments:

      • Reading and blogging. Choose your readings and keep notes in weekly blog posts.

      • Working on your semester-long class project. You will create a game using Unity3D. For more information, see Game Projects.

      • Responding to other students’ blogs.

      • Responding to other students’ projects.


You will need to spend appx. 6-8 hours for this module every week. You can complete the coursework at any time of the day or night on any day(s) of the week that is convenient for your schedule.

Reading/Writing Load. The reading consists of 20-40 pages per week. You will be writing appx. 500-2000 words per week.  the time required: appx. 2-3 hours.

Unity 3D Labs/Project Load, the time required: appx. 4-6 hours.

Commenting. You will be commenting on blogs and projects each week. Commenting time: appx. 30 minutes.


Your final grade is determined by your total points at the end of the semester. If you end up with 400 or more points at the end of the semester, you will receive an A. If you have 350-399 points, you will receive a B. If you have 310-349 points, you will receive a C. A minimum of 301 points is required to pass the class with a grade of D. The grade is up to you, this system is designed so that you can decide on your goal and proceed accordingly. The one caveat is that all project assignments must be completed!

Extra Credit.

There are extra credit assignments each week to help you make up any work you might miss. In case of a serious emergency which results in missing more than a few days of class, contact me so we can find a good solution.
