Getting Started with Twitter

If you are curious about how to use Twitter, this Tech Tip can help you get started. There are three different ways you can participate:
Use your existing account. If you already use Twitter, you can use that account for class tweets; just add #dmed2023 to the class tweets to distinguish them from your other tweets.
Create an additional account. If you already use Twitter, you can create a second account for this class (you just need to use a different email account for each Twitter account).
Create a new account. If you don’t use Twitter and want to try it, you can create your own Twitter account to use for class.
Below are instructions for each of those three options, and then in each of the Twitter-related Tech Tips. So, just choose the way that looks best to you now, tweet one thing, and then write up a blog post with your thoughts.
STEP ONE: Log on to Twitter. Choose the option you prefer from the four different options below:
* Use your existing Twitter account. If you already have a Twitter account and don’t mind using it for this class, you are good to go. Just log on and get ready to tweet in Step Two.
* Create your first Twitter account. To create a new Twitter account, go to Twitter.com and follow the instructions provided. Creating an account is very simple; to find out more, visit the Twitter Getting Started page. There are additional tips about getting started here at Twitter Bootcamp.
* Create a second Twitter account. If you have a Twitter account for personal use and want to create a second account for class, you can do that! You need a unique email address for each Twitter account you create.
If you are going to be using two different Twitter accounts, I recommend logging in to the second account using a different browser. That way, you won’t get mixed up about which is which! You can also use an app like Tweetdeck to manage multiple accounts;
STEP TWO: Tweet! When you are logged on at Twitter, you can tweet something (thoughts, a link, an image, a video, whatever you want), and include the #dmed2023 hashtag. If you have room in the tweet, you can also notify me by including my Twitter name: @sfernsy (the @ indicates a Twitter username or handle, and it sends a notification to the person’s account directly).
STEP THREE: Blog. Write up a quick blog post where you say something about your Twitter strategy: are you using Twitter already? are you new to Twitter? did you create a new account for this assignment? did you try using the group Twitter account? I am curious to hear your thoughts about Twitter; for me, it’s turned out to be a powerful online tool, although it did take me a while to figure out how to make good use of it!
To finish up, make sure to include the phrase “Tech Tip: First Tweet” in your blog post title and use “Tech Tip” as the label on the post; then you can do the Declaration.
